Oia
Oia (read "Ia") is about 10 km away from
Thera,
the main town, in the north-west direction.
It is one of the cutest place of all the island, where people
can feel a truly magic atmosphere: built on the rim of a steep
cliff crowned by blindingly white houses, churches and windmills
that plunge straight into the depths of the sea.
Every evening, in summer time, its narrow streets welcome many
tourists from all the world waiting to enjoy the fabulous
sunset over the Caldera.
It has two tiny harbours with beaches: Ammoudi and
Armeni.
Ammoudi harbour is a small, charming port situated about 214
steps below Oia, in the southern end of the town. It can be
reached on foot or by car, too, and it offers a number of fish
tavern and a blue sea to swim into.
Armeni harbour is situated in the northern edge of Oia, and
it can be reached by a 286 steps long path.
Oia is reachable from Thira by the bus service that passes
regularly. Then there are plenty of rent-a-car offices spotted
around the island, that hire scooters and quads, too.
A taxi fare from the main town to Oia is about 15-20 €, from the
airport to Oia 25-30 €.
